Well I’ve decided to sing “Wise Men Still Seek Him” as one of our Christmas songs for choir this year. I’ve actually never heard it performed before. It will be fun to hear it sung by our ward choir.
This week someone emailed me wondering what I meant by the words to this song, especially the chorus of the second verse. I thought I’d answer her on my blog, in case any one else was curious.
Of course I didn’t make up the title, but I remember when I first heard it, the words, “Wise Men Still Seek Him”, really hit me as true! As I wrote the song, of course the first verse I meant in the context of the Nativity. It’s quite literal that wise men were seeking to find the baby Jesus. I imagine they gave Him their gifts with tears in their eyes and rejoiced to find Him.
I feel very blessed to have found Him in this life. I also know that it’s not just finding Him that makes the difference in my life, but it’s continuing to seek after Him every day. I need to read about Him and learn about Him, and then follow His example. The more I seek after Him, the more I find myself rejoicing, even to the point when tears fill my eyes, recognizing all He has done for me. This is what I was thinking as I wrote the second chorus.
My third verse reads, Someday we will see Him- (literally!), our King and Messiah, with gifts from our hearts we will sing. With tears we’ll rejoice as our hearts fill with love, for Jesus, our Savior and King!
What a blessing to know who He is! I hope I recognize Him when He comes again!
