Okay, so I guess I was waiting for something eventful to happen, so I could write about it…. sometimes you get what you’re waiting for.
In the past, I’ve been very lucky… 6 kids, and not one of them has actually cut off all their hair. Today, one of them did. I should have been more prepared, or taken some of the hints that it was coming, after all, she had been finding anything she could possibly find to cut- including all the hair off of her stuffed animal horses, the mane, the tail, and then she’d moved on to her sisters stuffed animals. For several days in a row she’d been taking any chance she could to sneak a pair of scissors and snip at something- paper, clothes, bedspreads, etc. I have been trying to hide the scissors, higher, out of her reach- but somehow she keeps managing to find them. I think she has a sixth sense for trouble. I guess I didn’t really think that any child of mine would actually cut their own hair!
Like most things in my life, I was proven wrong today. Walking into her room, I looked down to see long hairs, short hairs, spread all over the entire room. She’d hacked it. It even looked like maybe a sister had helped her, because it was cut all the way around to the very back. I couldn’t believe it. She was so cute. Amazingly, I had just gotten her picture taken before this happened. I did take pictures. Someday she’ll say “What was I thinking!!!”I went through the range of emotions…. I cried, I laughed, and I punched the floor with both of my hands. I was soooo mad! But at the same time it was just sooooo funny! It’s always a difficult thing to figure out how to record those moments for posterity (Say “cheese”) and still maintain that what they did was a very naughty thing.
It wasn’t all bad though, now I’ve got pictures to remember this ridiculous phase with all those priceless memories… and I had the experience of trying out a new bob cut on a girl… who looked so cute in her longer hair (sniff! Sniff!). Oh-well, such is my life.
