Today our choir sang a song for our Ward Conference called “Peace”. It was a beautiful arrangement of “Be Still My Soul” and “Where can I turn for peace”. I downloaded it from www.soundsmithmusic.com. I added the link to my “links” page. I was impressed with their website and the quality of the music.
I thought that the choir sounded wonderful, but afterwards I saw our accompanist looking sad and a little teary. She apologized for how bad she’d done. I was shocked. I hadn’t noticed any wrong notes or problems with her accompanying. She told me that the music was a little too difficult for her to play, and that she had changed some of the notes to make it easier. She was upset that she couldn’t play it “as written”.
I gave her a hug. I told her, as a composer, that I would feel terrible if someone felt bad about changing some of my notes to make it easier to play. I wouldn’t be offend. (Of course editing the music and redistributing it would NOT be okay…) Anyway, I wanted to get that out in the open…
My baby turned 1 year old yesterday. He is starting to walk all over the place now. He’s a cutie…
