Last night we had the opportunity of having the missionaries from our church (The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) come to our house, and to have them teach us as part of our Family Home Evening lesson. It ended up being one of the most spiritual experiences our family has ever had together.
I wanted to just share part of their message that meant the most to me. They had us turn off the lights in our Family Room where we were, and had my fourteen year old daughter stand up with a flashlight being focused towards her backside. The missionaries asked her to see what she could see in front of her, as her future. Of course she could see some light, but mostly she could just see her shadow, which blocked the light from being seen.
Then the missionary gave her the light to hold in her hand and to shine forward. Then, with nothing blocking the light, they asked her what she could see. The path was so much clearer and brighter. The missionaries likened this experience to how we use Christ in our life, who is the light. If we get between the light that Christ gives us (in choices, decisions, goals, etc.), then we are missing out on the light and direction that helps lead us to where we want to go (Living in the Celestial Kingdom with our Heavenly Father).
It made me think of a comment that someone had said in Sacrament Meeting a few weeks ago, I had written, “Find out what the Lord wants us to be, and then let go of the balance.”
I liked that, because the balance is what holds us back, what keeps us from being who God wants us to be.
I want to live my life for my Savior. I want to live with my Heavenly Father again. I don’t know exactly how I might be standing in front of His light and blocking my own path, but I want to figure out how to stop that.
The missionaries also promised that if we would share the light that we had with others, that we would be given a greater light, and that the light we currently had, would not be taken away. I want God’s light to shine so bright that other’s can see some light through the one that I’m holding. have always loved the analogy of a light house. I want to be a light house.
I wasn’t planning to start writing every day, but I do want to share the little daily thoughts and things that are inspiring to me. I’ve had my blog entitled “Daily Inspirations” for awhile now, but maybe that was just God whispering to me, that I needed to write a little more often. I hope my words, and the music I write will bless others. I want my light to shine so that others can be led to their own light, the savior. I have such a testimony that through Christ, we can feel peace and feel God’s love. I hope you’ll take the challenge, along with me, to discover that light, and to let it shine -brightly, in front of us.
