I woke up like clockwork at 5 a.m. We stayed at the Douglas KOA in Wyoming, and it was just charming. I seriously wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy all the amenities that they had there. I enjoyed a nice warm shower before anyone else was up- and took a minute to breathe in the fresh air. I am glad I did that, because by the time I got back to camp, everyone was up!
We were late again leaving, (I had to almost completely repack the car) but after we got going, kids were happy, and we were on our way. The kids were good travelers today. My oldest two bought inexpensive hats for the other kids to decorate, and that was a wonderful idea. Don’t you think they turned out cute?!
Our first stop was Chimney Rock. There wasn’t much to do there, but it was neat to see the historic landmark. Our next stop was Ft. Kearney, we got a little lost finding it, so again we were a little rushed. We ate lunch, and looked at the fort. In our Book of Mormon family scripture reading, we’ve been reading about how Moroni fortified the cities. The kids had fun pretending for a minute up on one of the lookout corners…. We lost an hour moving into central daylight time, so we didn’t get to camp until 7:30. It was still enough time though to roast hotdogs and make s’mores. It was a good day. It’s starting to feel like we’ve actually left on our trip!
Our fun animal find for the day was a toad, swallows in a nest… and fireflies!
