Today the choir sang my arrangement of “Dare to do Right”. It was a fun song to sing. The choir did a good job.
Now I get to find something new to work on (not my favorite task), but thankfully there is now a Stake library! All of the music from each of the wards is being combined for Ward Choirs to use. I’m thrilled! For me, it’s like going into a candy store and picking my favorite sweet. So many choices. So much music to choose from!
I love to sit at a keyboard and piano and just play through a bunch. I can usually get a feel for the song pretty fast and know if it’s something that will be enjoyable for our choir to sing. I like picking songs that aren’t too hard, but have enough of a line or counterpoint to make it interesting.
That’s what I liked the most about my arrangement of “Dare to do Right”. It had some cool counterpoint at the end. As I was composing it, I kept wanting to just repeat the chorus again and again. It was just so fun to sing!
Someone emailed me asking me if I had a recording of the song. I wish I did. I always wish that, but maybe if I just had instruments play the vocal parts I could do it. It would at least help with the general idea of how it sounds.
It’s been a long time since I wrote a choral piece. One of the things I added to this one was REHEARSAL LETTERS! (Are you impressed?) I think it looks cool, and it was even more cool at our choir practice when someone wanted to go back to letter “E”…
Bet you didn’t know that would give me such a thrill!
