Our Ward Conference is next Sunday. Even though our Choir is supposed to sing, I canceled Choir last week because I was sick. I tried to find some music that someone else could lead for me while I was gone, but I just couldn’t find anything I liked. Now with only one week left, I have foregone all decency and wrote another choir piece! This seems to be the exact same reason I wrote my last choir song, “Dare to do Right”. It’s not the best scenario, especially when I just made a goal to put my family first and not get caught up in my own personal projects, but I finished it. How did I do with my goal? Not great- but maybe better than I did when I was working on my last song.
What I discovered, is when I have a deadline (and I’ve always loved deadlines in the past), I want to spend every minute I have working on whatever project I’m doing to get it done. This week, I tried to only work on my music during times my children were sleeping, or during quiet time. Sometimes it just KILLED me, and I’d sneak some time in anyway, but I did do better.
This week, I went to the library with my kids, took 5 of them to the grocery store with me (all at once!) TWICE (I usually try to only have to take 1 or 2)! I also had a bunch of coupons for a FREE ice cream cone at Arctic Circle, which I decided I’d make my fun activity for the week, and took all the kids there to play on the playground. I don’t even remember the last time I took my kids to do that! My two year old (He turns 2 tomorrow!) had so much fun, and I realized that I used to do that a lot more often with my other kids that were that age. It was fun. The other thing I did (which might be a new tradition) was since my husband went on a Scout campout with my older son, I decided to do a sleepover with the girls (and my other 2 boys). It was fun.
I’m doing better. Week number one more or less was a success!
