When my husband and I first met, my husband was enrolled in a ballroom dance class. Naturally I was impressed, and thought that meant that he enjoyed dancing. Of course, I should have known that mostly it was just so that he could meet girls. Unfortunately for him- he ended up taking the class as a married man, and didn’t enjoy it that much. We’ve danced occasionally since then, but not very often. Fast forward almost 20 years….
Today we took a ballroom class together. It was fun. We were the only ones in the class, and my good friend, Vicki Bos (a fabulous dance instructor), helped us learn how to lead and follow. What an awesome Valentines date. I’m hoping we can continue once a month. I think the reason we haven’t gone dancing much, is that we just weren’t very good at it together.
Another first in a long while, is a calling I received last Sunday. I’m the new ward organist. It’s been YEARS since I played the organ, and I wasn’t sure how I would do.
I went to the chapel in preparation and practiced for awhile. It wasn’t too bad. I’m hoping I don’t mess up too bad tomorrow. I only practiced the 4 songs that the whole congregation will be singing, and not any kind of prelude or postlude songs (not enough time). I hope I do okay. With my being the pianist for Relief Society, the organist for Sacrament Meeting, and the choir director, I’m thinking my next musical project (after my current ones of course) will have to be a book of hymn arrangements – for preludes and postludes!
The other first for me today is that I made my first “ap” for my ipod. I’ve been working on this application for months (learning xcode), but today was the first day I was actually able to install it on my ipod and try it out. Yes- I’m such a geek, but it feels really cool to be able to program a budget program, or keep track of my kids jobs and “grades” using an application I programmed myself…
I’m also still working on my musical and a bunch of other things when I have a moment here and there (and yes, I’m still trying to SLOW down and not be so project driven–can you tell how hard this is for me!) I’m doing okay with that. My daughter is off at her 2nd formal dance (Preference), she looked beautiful in her pink formal. I enjoyed fixing up her hair, and helping her make the arrangements.
It’s been a good day… a busy day… just the way I like ’em!
