I had my first chance on Saturday to see a run through of my musical. It’s still being “blocked” in some places, but it’s really coming along!
My mom is the director. She is doing a fantastic job. She has met individually with different groups of sisters to teach their parts, and work out movement. Yesterday was the first time running through with everyone on the stage.
She is getting some assistance from a sister who will add some choreography. Some of the music really lends itself to some movement. It will be fun to see what she comes up with. I helped out by playing the piano, until they were able to get the sound system working. The orchestrations still have a ways to go.
My favorite part was watching the women playing Penny get into her part. She was wonderful.
We were wondering how we would do some of the scene changes, but having a couple of the scenes in front of the curtain, solved the problem!
The whole musical can be performed with a minimal of props and sets. We used the furniture from the church’s foyer- a couch, two nice chairs, and a small table. We also used some Sunday school chairs. I was impressed how well it all worked.
There’s a lot I couldn’t quite visualize as I was putting the script together, but now it’s so fun to see it coming to life!
