I turned 40 this month. It really wasn’t too bad. I actually had my mid-life crisis at 30. I couldn’t even talk about it. I remember calculating as a young teenager how old I would be in the year 2000. I would be 27, that was almost 30. That seemed ancient. I would probably have a couple of kids by then! So- when I did finally turn 30,and had 5 kids, I really felt old.
So, on my fortieth birthday, it really wasn’t any big deal. I’m already old after all. I also had the amazing opportunity of singing for an AMCAP convention at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. It was an amazing conference, and I was just as excited about singing as I was to go and learn. AMCAP stands for the Association of Mormon Counselors and Psychotherapists. It was a great opportunity for therapists to go and learn techniques and wisdom in a very LDS environment. It was wonderful, and even though I’m not a therapist, I came away inspired. I love to learn about people and how they think. It fascinates me.
One of the people I learned about was someone named Brene Brown. Her name just kept coming up, and I wanted to learn more about her. I’ve been reading about her and her studies. I just signed up to take a 6-week online e-class on her book “The Gifts of Imperfection”. It’s something I don’t normally do, but I think it will be fun. I’ll give you a report, and if you want to watch her TED video, click here to see some of what I’ll be learning about.
I’ve also started something new on my website. It’s going to take a long time to get it all finished, but I’m going through all my music, and trying to organize it all, including generating graphics for every single one of my songs. I’ve finished most of the piano songs, and if you look at my website, you can look through the thumbnails of the actual sheet music. I think it will be cool. Also, people can pin the songs on pinterest and other social media when I get finished, so I think that will be neat. New ways to share.
