Today ended up being another full day of traveling. It wasn’t supposed to be, but it definitely ended up that way. When I was planning our trip towards D.C. I was amazed to find that stopping in Gettysburgh, PA would only add 15 minutes to our drive. Unfortunately, I hadn’t printed off the directions there, and going off my husband’s GPS, we got quite lost.
We decided to take a lunch break at McDonald’s, and 45 minutes later we found Gettysburgh. There wasn’t much to do there that didn’t cost a lot of money, so we just walked from the parking lot to the Visitor’s Center (about a mile), enjoyed listening to someone play the fife for us, and headed back on our way.
Unfortunate for us, the people at Gettysburgh were planning a big reenactment battle. It would have been neat to see I’m sure, but trying to find our way with all the detours and closed highways became quite a challenge. We again got lost for quite a while before finally finding the main highway leading us towards D.C..
The kids were tired and cranky, and so were their parents….
Thankfully, the day ended well. After we got settled at the Greenbelt State Park, we drove to the Washington D.C. temple. It was absolutely gorgeous! My son already lost his recommend, so he wasn’t able to go, but my two older girls were able to do some temple work there while the rest of our family watched the new Joseph Smith movie at the visitor’s center. I was very impressed and would highly recommend seeing it if you get the chance.
The spirit again reinforced my testimony of the restored gospel. How grateful I am to know God’s plan for me and for all of God’s children.
