It’s getting so close to our trip. I’ve been excited, and nervous, and stressed, and terrified, and worried, and happy, and stressed….
Yesterday I took a night off and spent some time with some of my best girl friends. These girls gave me such a lift. I don’t get out very often, but when I do it’s just soooo much fun! We laughed and laughed and talked and talked. Truly it is good to have friends!
Today, a bunch of things came together for me in planning for our vacation. For one- my husband’s passport came in the mail- Yay! I’m hoping that means the other 2 are not far behind. Second of all, about our van, we had decided to go with the rental. I was a little sad and disappointed that it would mean we would have to leave a day earlier for our trip, but we kept praying that somehow things would work out right.
Today when I called, it turns out that the people who were renting the van right after us, rescheduled their reservation for one day later… It’s perfect! We can keep it for our whole vacation plan. Yay! My husband was able to feel the peace that things would work out, and though I wish I could have not stressed so long about finding some other option, I’m just so glad things worked out the way they did.
Tomorrow my oldest two children leave for “trek”. I’ll try to write about that later. They’re both ready now, buckets filled with pioneer clothes, and all set for the pioneer experience. They’ve even prepared well by walking to the temple each day (about 2 miles)- breaking in their hiking boots, and preparing for the long walk ahead. I think they are going to have a great time.
They have also been helping me prepare for our vacation. They decided that they wanted to make “Sanity Packets”- something to keep the kids busy on the long roads ahead. I’ve been impressed with their creativity and perseverance as they’ve compiled comics, mazes, sudokus, word searches, coloring pages, and even guess-that-disney-movie quotes for their packets. I’m sure it will be a great help on the road ahead.
Tonight I took my 13 year old out for a slurpee. She has been so helpful to me the last couple weeks. Every time I ask if someone would be willing to babysit, she’s quick to volunteer. She’s a great babysitter, but I’ve worried that I’ve been using her services too much. Being the oldest of 11 children myself, I sometimes felt like I had to babysit too much. It was fun to take her out tonight and just spend some quality time with her. I have amazing kids. They are all so wonderful, and I’m looking forward to spending a lot more quality time with them this summer!
It’s almost here!!!
