We’ve never lived in a home more than about 5 years. In fact, I think we’ve lived in our home longer than we’ve lived anywhere since my husband and I got married. We always finally get our basement finished and our trees planted, just in time to move into a new house and start all over again! This year, we are anticipating actually eating some of the fruit from our trees!
On Monday, we were teasing my son, who is starting to like some of the girls in the area, that it was about time to move again. For fun, I got on the internet to search for a house. He prayed we wouldn’t find anything. I didn’t expect to. The chances that we could find a house in the area bigger than the house we have now, with enough bedrooms, and for a low enough price that it would be worthwhile to make the move seemed very unlikely.
We found one. I was very surprised. I called a realtor in our ward and she gave me the address. I went and looked at the outside. It was in a really nice neighborhood. The biggest house in the block, but in a neighborhood that obviously had lots of kids, and a nice friendly atmosphere. It’s in foreclosure, awaiting bank approval for the lower price, having been vacant and bank owned for the last 2 years. I decided it was worth it to go look inside. We took all the kids. We like the house except for 2 major things… It has an unfinished basement, and a totally unfinished yard- No trees!
I’ve never loved our home. It had the right amount of bedrooms, and it’s worked for what we needed, but it’s never really felt like “home”. Our house was brown when we moved in, and a couple of years ago I finally painted our main family room, but we have needed new carpet since we moved in. In 2008 we were about to get new carpet we decided to make a CD instead (Thy God, My God). I’m glad we made the CD, but it never made it to stores, and we never had the resources to still afford the new carpet.
Thanks to this last week though, my husband is willing to use our tax return money to get new carpet, just in case we end up selling. I’m thrilled.
I don’t know if we’ll move. A lot of things would still have to work out. It will probably take quite a while, even if it did work out. Either way, I’m finally getting my new carpet, and I’m happy.
